Haymarket Media Group celebrates 25 years of trading in Germany this year. We are at an exciting and pivotal point as we continue to invest in and grow our wholly-owned B2B business, Haymarket Media GmbH, with brands including TASPO, Campaign Germany and PrintWeek Germany. 

Working out of our Braunschweig office 3 days a week, the new Managing Director will lead the strategic development of the business, with a view to investing in new markets and technologies, aligned with our wider Haymarket Media Group portfolio. 

Purpose

To define, lead, communicate and execute a growth strategy for Haymarket Media GmbH. This will involve a strategic review of the existing business and capabilities as well as identifying opportunities for growth in new sectors aligned with our wider global portfolio, particularly in the Medical education/publishing space. 

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Digital transformation - Project Rhino - building a sustainable, digital future for the german horticultural business, adopting a known audience, paid content, data-driven model
  • Provide clarity of direction of purpose for the executive team and wider employee base
  • Define a vision for the business based on market trends and industry dynamics
  • Create, maintain and enhance Haymarket Media GmbH’s competitive advantage through market understanding, investment and high quality execution
  • In deciding business priorities, combine an instinctive understanding of Haymarket’s values with fact-based, reasoned research and argument
  • Identify risks and devise strategies for mitigation where necessary
  • Building a cohesive leadership team with the skills and knowledge to take the business through its next phase of growth

Business management

  • Prioritise business & investment plans according to profile of value creation potential and risk
  • Ensure that new business ideas are surfaced, developed, researched, assessed and decided upon in a timely manner
  • Work with other parts of Haymarket to ensure effective global brand management where Group opportunities are capitalised upon
  • Build and maintain both internal and external networks to create an unrivalled presence and influence in your markets
  • Establish, share and continually review appropriate key performance criteria to achieve results 

Talent management

  • Carry out a full talent and capability assessment, identifying any skills gaps and upskilling needs
  • Continue to build an Haymarket Media GmbH culture, consistent with our HMG culture, our vision and values, and our overarching Haymarket IMPACT ESG strategy, including our ambition to become BCorp certifiedShow clear leadership through strong and decisive management
  • Gain buy-in from senior management team
  • Focus on developing talent at all levels and aligning talent to those brands with the highest margins
  • Ensure annual appraisals and quarterly personal development plans are in place for all Haymarket Media GmbH colleagues
  • Attract, retain and develop talent in line with evolving business needs
  • Ensure that the highest professional standards are maintained at all times at all levels
  • Encourage and honest an open culture in both good times and bad, and where success is celebrated and failure learned from
  • Communicate upwards and manage expectations appropriately, challenging accepted wisdom where necessary

Person specification

  • Fluent English-speaking
  • Experience of developing strategy and leading business change, particularly within a subscription, paid content or recurring income stream business
  • A collaborative, inclusive and decisive leadership style
  • Excellent communication and influencing  skills
  • Understanding of a multi-faceted modern media business
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Complex problem solving
  • Ability to build and engage effective leadership teams
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills
  • Understanding of leading a people-first, sustainable business with equal opportunity at its heart is key
